Math Resources for Parents and Student:
This is a list of online math programs and tutoring schools that you may find helpful for supplementation, remediation or a complete curriculum. We do not recommend one over another, but suggest that you go to websites, try them and determine which will work best for your student.
It’s useful to know that WA state law gives parents the right to single subject home school. That means you can opt out of school math and home school your child in math only. Some of these online programs and tutoring schools offer a full curriculum of instruction and assessment.
Online math:
ALEKS: Through adaptive questioning, ALEKS accurately assesses a student’s knowledge state and then delivers targeted instruction on the exact topics the student is most ready to learn.
BYU: BYU offers common math courses that are transferable to most colleges and universities. Independent study allows students to complete courses at their own pace. Once registered, a student has one year to complete a course. Independent study is an excellent way to get that extra class to fit in your busy schedule.
Carnegie Learning: Founded by cognitive and computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University in conjunction with veteran mathematics teachers, Carnegie Learning has the courage to not only question the traditional way of teaching math, but re-invent it.
